Honestly, I never felt any need for a chain saw. It was when I experienced the repercussions of a hurricane that I really had no choice but to buy one. Although I was pressured to acquire a chainsaw immediately, I took time in researching. In this difficult economic times, I had to be very cautious with my spending. So I saw lots of results pertaining to chain saws. I was torn between a gas powered and an electric one. I read all the pros and cons. Since I'm usually the lazy type, the idea of a gas powered chain saw was not appealing to me. Of course, the stratospheric price of gas was my major consideration. Also,based on reviews, maintenance for gas-powered chain saws is very costly. I do not want to be bothered by additional fees especially if I will be using a product for once or twice a year only.

I was torn between the Makita chain saw and the Poulan 400E. Reading the reviews somewhat made me an expert on chain saws already. I had to constantly remind myself that I should stick to my original budget. I'll just risk for this measly and very affordable Poulan chainsaw. Amazon was on time with their delivery. That's something commendable.

Saws

The Poulan Pro 400E well was easy to set up. It was light weight, thank God! You really have to read the instructions if you want to save your fingers for future use. The extension cord is not that long, so if you have a big backyard then you better buy a longer one. I just find it annoying that the Poulan provided a cheap plastic protector for the blade. I wouldn't mind paying extra just to have a sturdier casing.

Tile saws are used to cut flooring materials including ceramic tile, porcelain, marble, granite and slate. Tile saws come in several different types, however, they all share some basic similarities. All tile saws cut by abrading or scraping the surface of the material at high speed. This is usually done with a diamond blade. Diamond blades, as their name implies, have many tiny man made industrial quality diamond suspended in a hardened metal powder. As the blade spins against the tile, the diamonds scrape away the material in a thin straight line, eventually cutting the tile in two. The blade builds up heat as it cuts. To keep the heat generated by the blade from over-heating the motor, the tile saw uses water to cool the blade as it cuts. Diamond blades can be replaced as they wear out. Blades can also be changed on the saw allowing the saw user to employ different blade types for cutting different materials.

These saws are small, light and portable. They feature a blade that protrudes up through a slot in the cutting surface. Blade sizes on these saws vary from 4 to 7 inches in diameter. Since these saws usually do not have a table rail, there is no physical limit to the size of tile they can cut. As a practical matter, cutting a tile that is larger than the size of the table is difficult. Directly below the blade is a water pan. As the blade spins, it travels through the water to cool. So the ring saw is basically a saw that uses only the outer edge of a circular saw. That is that it is as if a person simply cut around a round saw blade to remove just the outer ring to eliminate the friction and allow for sharp turns, but at the same time keeping the momentum factor as well as all the teeth facing the same way. They're an excellent choice for cutting stone, and concrete.

Even so there are several types of ring saws that were designed to accommodate any number of different cutting situations, but one thing that they all have in common is that only an outer ring spins, and does the cutting. For instance, one very popular type of ring saw uses a very thin spinning diamond studded ring that functions in much the same way as a standard jig saw does. It has a table to hold the stock that can be turned, as with a jig saw.

Still yet another stationary table style ring saw functions just like a standard chop saw. The stock to be cut is set on the table and the ring blade is then lowered down into it, in the exact same way as you might cut a block of wood with a chop saw, or a mitre saw. The difference here though, is that because there is no flat blade, but rather just the ring, stones aren't scratched, or affected by friction.

Now both of the above listed ring saws are electric powered and rather light, compared to larger petrol powered ring saws that are used primarily on commercial job sites for cutting concrete. Now because these heavier saws are used to cut larger stock and are hand held, the ring blade on them is supported by an inner circular plate with a groove that it rides in.
